SPECIAL EDUCATION: IDEA AND 504 classroom_HDR

Students with disabilities are provided extensive rights under state and federal law, which can be overwhelming to navigate on your own. We provide assistance to families seeking special education services and civil rights at all phases from initial evaluation through successful transition to adulthood. We have specific expertise related to identification and evaluation of students, development of appropriate  IEPs and Section 504 plans, related service coordination and instructional delivery, least restrictive environment for placement determination, and manifestation determination review for disciplinary action. If you feel your student’s right to a free and appropriate public education has not been met or that you have been significantly excluded from your student’s educational process, we can expertly assist you through due process hearing requests, special education mediation, and settlement negotiations.

HARASSMENT, INTIMIDATION, AND BULLYING

No student should ever have to endure the physical and psychological effects of harassment, intimidation, and bullying (HIB) at school. Too often, however, schools and districts ignore this behavior and its potentially devastating consequences because “kids will be kids.” We believe that this is unacceptable. If your child has been victimized by adults or other students in the school environment and those meant to be supervising have been non-responsive or otherwise negligent, you may have an actionable claim for compensation for the damage done to your student and to ensure that this kind of behavior does not happen again.

STUDENT DISCIPLINE APPEALS

Public education students from elementary school through university have the right to due process of law before they are sanctioned or removed from their learning environments. Private school students have rights protecting them from unfair discipline under state and federal laws. We at Cassady Law have the knowledge and skills to effectively deal with public and private schools in asserting rights for general education students with discipline issues and persons with disabilities as well.
